To ensure a sustainable and healthy blood supply for persons with Thalassemia, Prathama initiated enrolment program under Blood Support Group (BSG). Here voluntary non-remunerated blood donors like You can dedicate blood donation to specific person with Thalassemia. This program is launched to ensure safe and timely blood supply for all persons with Thalassemia who regularly need blood transfusion. Pratham is having about 300 registered patients who need regular blood supply. This is a unique program where you find complete satisfaction of helping someone just by donating blood 2 times in a year.
The recall centre of Prathama calls up regular voluntary blood donors and proposes to get registered for “Blood Support Group”. The cause of Thalassemia and need for regular and safe blood supply is explained. Once the donor is willing to donate at regular intervals, their names are registered under the program. They are assigned a Thalassemic child/person to support. The details are given to them except contact details just to ensure confidentiality.
Where ever there is need for blood, the patient calls up Prathama Recall center and registers his/her need. Recall center in turn calls up the registered donor by his/her turn and informs the need for blood. Effortlessly with the support of voluntary dedicated blood donor blood is arranged for Thalassemic person. Generally 1-2 days time is given to donor to come and donate for the patient.
Each Thalassemic person is supported by a group of 8-10 voluntary blood donors. This group ensures timely blood supply to the person through out the year with the help of recall center of Prathama.
So far 300 voluntary donors are registered under Blood Support Group. More number of voluntary blood donors are joining the program to help a Thalassemic child in need. Parents of Thalassemic child are more than happy as they get safe blood in time from few donors. This helps the child to be free from fear of transfusion transmitted infections.
