BLOOD SUPPORT GROUP

Thalassemia Support

Blood Support Group is a recent initiative of Prathama. Thalassemic person requires regular blood transfusions and hence carry a high risk of transfusion transmittable infections. Due to this it is always recommended to provide blood procured from limited number of regular blood donors. Families of thalassemic children find it difficult to manage blood donors all the time. At times, they postpone the transfusions which is at times fatal to the child.

”Blood Support Group” was launched with an objective to provide safe and quality blood donated by dedicated regular voluntary blood donor to support the person with Thalassemia. This program will ensure that the Thalassemia patient gets blood in time without any hassle.

Who can be a member of Blood Support Group

Any regular voluntary Blood Donor can become a member of Blood Support Group. The person should be above 18 years of age, should be eligible to donate, should be healthy and should not indulge in any risk behavior activities. Most important is that he/she should be willing to donate twice in a year when there is a requirement.

How does “Blood Support Group” work?

DSC_8213

Each Blood Support Group is formed by 10 motivated voluntary donors, who donate 2 times a year for dedicated Thalassemic child and supports this child throughout the year. Each group consists of 8 members and each member can donate 2 times a year. The date and time of blood donation and convenient venue of donation will be organized by Prathama Donor Recall Centre. This will ensure limited donor exposure to the child and hence reduced risk of TTI’s.

Once enrolled, the donor will be given a Certificate of Membership and also can avail various donor benefits at Prathama. They are invited to various functions at the organization.

To enroll as BSG member and bring smiles to these children, please call Prathama.
