Red cells in additive solution

300 - 350 ml of RBCs in additive solution collected from 450 ml of whole blood

Sympto- matic anaemia acute or chronic for restoration of O 2 carrying capacity

1 unit RBC increases Hct 3%, increases Hb by 1gm% (approx.)

Must be ABO & Rh compatible and X- match compatible

* Deficiency anaemias treatable pharmaco- logically

* Coagula- tion factor deficiencies

42 days

2 o C - 6 o C

Washed RBCs

300 - 350 ml red cells washed in NS thrice under Laminar air flow

Sympto- matic anaemia with Plasma protein antibodies, IgA Ab.s, PNH, H/O febrile reactions

1 unit RBC increases Hct 3%, increases Hb by 1gm% (approx.)

Must be ABO & Rh compatible and X- match compatible

* Deficiency anaemias treatable pharmaco- logically

* Coagula- tion factor deficiencies

24 hrs, however, to be consumed preferably in 6 hrs

2 o C - 6 o C

Fresh frozen Plasma

200 - 250 ml, prepared within 6 hrs of whole blood collection preserving all clotting factors including labile factors (V & VIII)

/Multiple coagulation factor deficiency, Massive transfusion, Liver disease, DIC, TTP

10 -15 ml/kg increases factor levels 20 - 30%

ABO compatible No Rh compatibility or X- match required

Conditons responsive to volume replacement

Frozen 1 year

-30 o C or lower use preferably within 6 hrs after thawing at 37 o C

Cryopre- cipitate

10 - 25 ml

Haemophilia A, Von Willebrand's disease, Hypofibrino- genemia, F XIII deficiency

Factor VIII - 1 unit/kg increases level by 2%

No ABO, Rh or X- match required

Conditions not deficient in contained factors

Frozen - 1 year

-30 o C or lower use preferably within 6 hrs after thawing at 37 o C

Cryopoor Plasma

175 - 230 ml Albumin approx 8 gm.

Multiple coagulation factor deficiency, Massive transfusion, Liver disease, DIC

10 - 15 ml/kg increases factor levels 20 - 30%

ABO compatible, no Rh compatibility or X- match required

Conditions responsive to volume replacement

Frozen - 1 year

-30 o C or lower use preferably within 6 hrs after thawing at 37 o C

Platelets Random donor (RDP)

> 0.5 X 10 10 platelets from 450 ml of blood 45 - 65 mL

Bleeding from throbocyto- penia, Functional defect of platelets

Increases platelet count by 5000 to 10000µ/L per unit

Preferably group compatible. However, non group specific platelets can be given

Plasma coagulation factor deficit, TTP, HUS, ITP except in life saving situations

5 days (special bags)

20 o C - 24 o C with continuous agitation

Platelets Single Donor (SDP)

> 3 X 10 11 platelets 200 - 450 ml

Best mode to correct throbocyto- penia by reducing refractori- ness

Increases platelet count by 30 to 60000µ/L per unit

ABO and Rh compatible HLA matched when indicated

Plasma coagulation factor deficit, TTP, HUS, ITP except in life saving situations

5 days (closed system)

20 o C - 24 o C with continuous agitation
