The world blood donor day is observed every year on 14th June. It is a put aside for the voluntary blood donors to thank them for their altruistic and life saving act.
The WBDD is being host by different countries in the world. This year Barcelona the capital of ITALY has taken initiative for this.
The theme for this year is NEW BLOOD FOR THE WORLD. Today 54 countries have 100% percent voluntary blood donation which was 32 countries in 2002.
This day reminds us to boost up voluntary blood donations in our country and other developing countries where this cause needs to lift up to serve the society.
Prathama Blood Centre is celebrating this great day of honor for blood donors, every year on 14th June by organizing blood drives with fun filled activities like Drawing competition, singing competition, Quiz, Bringing cartoon characters etc.
This year we had drives at six locations and collected 536 units. Blood Donors were invited with family. Prize distribution had been also done. Mainly youths donated blood. More than 80% donors came forward from youth segment.
We salute these life savers for their great enthusiasm to this noble cause. The said event was covered by print & electronic media.
